Hafsa Kanjwal & the Kashmiri Colonization of Kamala's colon

A colony is a territory occupied and administered by people who originated from some other territory and who lack sovereignty (if they have it, they are a 'Dominion' not a 'Colony') even if they enjoy autonomy . Conquest of contiguous territory is not Colonialism. It is mere territorial expansion. The same is true regarding demographic change brought on by peaceful, even if illegal, immigration.

A country or territory which is occupied and administered by another is not necessarily a colony. The US and its allies occupied, and later maintained garrisons, in Germany and Japan- and more recently Afghanistan and Iraq- but this did not mean any of those countries were colonized. It did mean that they had done evil shit which really pissed off a much stronger power which was now systematically kicking their collective ass and taking names.

It is perfectly possible for stupid shitheads to describe something as colonialism even if isn't colonialism. Suppose a lot of immigrants move into your neighbourhood. Bigots may say 'we are being colonized by those savages. Did you know they eat puppy dogs and pussy cats?' However, we are not obliged to accept such testimony. We are welcome to tell such bigots to fuck the fuck off.

Equally, people in a portion of a country- e.g. a resource rich province or one which objects to liberal immigration laws- may think they would be better off if they separated from the rest of the nation. Such 'separatists' may claim that their province is being 'colonized' or 'plundered' or that vicious immigrants are eating their puppy dogs. But Separatism has nothing to do with Colonialism.

Back in the Nineties, a pair of Kashmiri Doctors invaded the USA as part of the colonization of that once great country by evil Islamic fanatics. Hafsa Kanjwal, though only 6 years old at that time, was a member of the Islamic Occupation Army in America which triumphed when an Islamist born in Nairobi- Barack Hussein Osama- became POTUS. Hafsa was notorious for beating, sodomizing, decapitating and committing genocide on trillions of innocent, Christian, Americans. Also, she ate their puppy dogs.

To distract attention from her own Colonialist project of subjugating Christian America, Hafsa pretends that the Kashmir her parents fled- because of a rise in Islamist terror in the region subsequent on the Soviet defeat in Afghanistan- is a colony of India. This is not the case. There may be separatism there but there was no Colonialism. Consider the American Civil War. The South was separatist. It didn't say it was a colony of the North. It said the North wanted to get rid of its 'peculiar institution'- viz. slavery. Similarly, the Islamic fanatics of Kashmir- like the Islamic fanatics in America- were attached to their own 'peculiar institution' viz. jihad against kaffirs- and display hostility to democratic institutions as well as to alethic research programs in Higher Education. Towards this end, they publish stupid, mischievous, lies so as to gain influence over bien pensant shitheads.

Hafsa Kanjwal, a Professor of stupid shite, writes in Aeon-

Colonies of former colonies
India’s ongoing subjugation of Kashmir holds portentous lessons about the nature of contemporary colonialism

But Pakistan's ongoing subjugation of Balochistan is worse as was their previous subjugation of East Bengal. If Hafsa's parents had to flee it was because Pakistan was backing Islamic terrorists in the Kashmir Valley. Sadly, they were not able to conquer it and impose Taliban rule. Hafsa was denied the opportunity to grow up illiterate. Unlike Malala Yousafzai, she was not shot in the head for the crime of going to school.

Though Islamist terrorism created a big problem in Kashmir valley, it was nothing the Indian Army could not handle. Thus Islamic terrorism has had a far more devastating impact on large swathes of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran and Iraq and... actually, this problem exists even for UK and the US. But no 'portentous' lesson can be learnt from India or China in this regard. Why? They have unlimited military man-power to deal with a demographically very small threat.  The plain fact is, over the last 25 years, Pakistan, with a much smaller population, has taken about 80 or 90,000 deaths from Islamist violence- whereas India may have taken  about 20,000. Last year, Pakistan had 1438 fatalities from Terrorism. India had 84.

In April 1955, at a closed session of the Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia,

which followed the Baghdad pact where Pakistan signed up with the 'Imperial' powers- i.e. Jim Crow America and a Britain which would soon launch, in partnership with the French and Israelis, an unprovoked attack on Egypt.

India’s prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru

a blathershite

spoke forcefully about the need for countries in Asia and Africa to refuse to join either of the two great powers – the United States and the Soviet Union – and to remain unaligned. Arguing that alignment with either power during the Cold War would degrade or humiliate those countries that had ‘come out of bondage into freedom’, Nehru maintained that the moral force of postcolonial nations should serve as a counter to the military force of the great powers. At one point, Nehru chided the Iraqi and Turkish delegates at the conference who had simultaneously spoken favourably about the Western bloc and the formation of NATO while lamenting the continued French colonisation of North Africa. Nehru said:
We must take a complete view of the situation and not be contradictory ourselves when we talk about colonialism, when we say ‘colonialism must go’, and in the same voice say that we support every policy or some policies that confirm colonialism. It is an extraordinary attitude to take up.

Nehru was as stupid as shit. Still, his pal Kidwai had pulled from the rug under his other great pal- Sheikh Abdullah in Kashmir.

A few years later, in 1961, along with Josip Broz Tito of Yugoslavia, Sukarno of Indonesia, Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana

who wrote to the Brits asking them not to help India against China in 1962

and Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt, Nehru became one of the founders of the non-aligned movement. Having lifted the yoke of British colonialism,

Churchill was very evil. Did you know he prevented the Japanese from conquering India? What a bastard!

India presented itself as poised to take on the moral and political leadership of the decolonising world.

It could show them how to become incapable of feeding or defending yourself. Also, how come Eisenhower is wiping his own bum but refusing to come and wipe Nkrumah or Nehru's bum? Is it due to Eisenhower is RACIST?

This was perhaps to be expected, especially given that India was the largest and most populous country to become independent from European colonial rule.

It was the largest and most populous territory to prefer British to Indian masters. Sadly, the Brits slyly fucked off because the place couldn't turn a profit.

The story of India’s anticolonial struggle, too, had been mythologised by the nonviolent resistance offered by Indian figures such as Mahatma (‘great soul’) Gandhi. Nehru, too, was perceived as a charismatic and well-read leader who spoke for the people of Asia and Africa, and attempted to find what the scholar Ian Hall has called a ‘different way to conduct international relations’. The stature of both men played a critical role in establishing Indian dominance in the Third World order, and also in establishing ‘the idea of India’ as a secular liberal democracy that was built on the foundational idea of unity in diversity.

Nonsense! India had refused a seat on the Security Council and a larger role in world affairs. It doubled down on begging for food and 'free money' from Uncle Sam. However, it was very careful to keep biting the hand that fed it.

Even as Nehru proclaimed the moral superiority of India for taking a stance against colonialism in all forms, he oversaw India’s colonial occupation of Kashmir.

Nope. Back in 1931-32, around the time of the Second Round Table Conference, there was a revolt against the Maharaja of Kashmir in the North West portion of the Kingdom. The Maharaja got military help from the Viceroy but that area was subsequently garrisoned by British, not Dogra, officers. At the time of Partition, the British officers were content that the territory go to Pakistan and there was also a tribal invasion assisted by Pakistani army officers. The Maharaja acceded to India and India sent troops to save the Valley whose people didn't want to be raped and massacred by the invaders. The problem was that the Muslim majority of the Valley wanted to dominate Hindu majority Jammu (actually there had been some ethnic cleansing there) and Buddhist majority Ladakh. Sadly, Sheikh Abdullah got a bit too big for his boots and was replaced by his Deputy- a capable administrator under whom Kashmir made good progress. That is why there were no support there for the Pakistani infiltrators who turned up in 1965. Meanwhile Pakistan's colonial policies towards East Bengal would lead to the partition of that country.

In the middle of the 20th century, a wave of anticolonial and national liberation movements gained independence from European powers, by exercising their right to self-determination.

No. They got freedom because the colonial power felt the game was not worth the candle. Sometimes this was because of the high cost of defeating a native insurrection. At other times, it was because the place was a shithole.

Nationalist leaders of the former colonies, however, remained committed to the ideals of the nation-state and its territorial sovereignty that derived from European modernity.

No. Nationalist leaders came in all shapes and sizes. Some were Communists. Others were theocratic. Yet others just wanted to get rich through corruption.

Independence, it was widely accepted, came in the form of the nation-state,

No. You could have a multi-ethnic empire or confederation or collection of 'Soviets' or what have you.

which outshone other forms of political organisation or possibilities.

No. Malaysia was a Federation where the Presidency rotated amongst various royal houses while Indonesia (which claimed Malaysia) went in a different, initially crazier, direction. Iran and Ethiopia had Emperors while, in some other countries, military dictators replaced monarchs.

The borders of the nation-state became contested,

like the border between France and Germany or Austria-Hungary and Italy.

as European powers often imposed boundaries that ill suited visions of what constituted the political community.

This was certainly true of inter-war Europe.

This would have deleterious consequences for places where geography, demographics, history or political aspirations posed serious challenges to nationality.

e.g. Europe.

In turn, newly formed nation-states asserted their newfound sovereignty through violence and coercion,

just as in Europe where newly formed nation-states- e.g. France- asserted their newfound sovereignty by chopping off the heads of lots of people and fighting a war in the Vendee.

which had implications for Indigenous and stateless peoples within their borders

like the Romani in Europe or the Sami in Scandinavia.

whose parallel movements for self-determination were depicted as illegitimate to the sovereign nation-state order.

Just like in Europe.

Mona Bhan and Haley Duschinski call this process ‘Third World imperialism’.

Those two shitheads don't get that a lot of 'Third World' countries had Emperors before they were colonized.  Still, it is a fact that after independence, people in many African and Asian countries displayed flatulence. This highlights the paradox that decolonization did not lead, as many have claimed, to the disappearance of the colon or intestines or anal sphincter. Consider what Nehru said in a closed session of the Bandung Conference 'I did not fart just now. Evil Viceroys were causing Indians to fart. Even now, Baghdad Pact is trying to get our Iraqi friends to fart. Only through Non-Alignment based on Secular, Socialist, Sententiousness sans Sexy Shenanigans can we preserve our new found freedom from flatulence. Don't point your finger at me and hold your nose! If anyone farted it was the fucking Turkish delegate. Did you know Turkey is a member of NATO? Fuck you Turkey! Fuck you very much!'

Some anticolonial nationalists were real nationalists,

while others were pretending to come from the planet Uranus

that is, they saw claims of self-determination within their imagined community of a nation as ‘separatist’, ‘secessionist’, ‘ethnonationalist insurgencies’ or ‘terrorism’.

Why America got so angry when some nice Arab peeps came to their country and killed lots of infidels on 9/11?

Such framings, rife in Indian discourses on Kashmir, are ahistorical and dehumanising.

It is very ahistorical and dehumanising to protest against nice Muslim peeps putting kaffirs out of their misery.

When we move beyond seeing these regions from the perspective of the dominant nation-state, we come to see how they are places with their own histories, imaginaries and political aspirations –

e.g the desire to kill kaffirs. Why can't Kamala Harris just stab her Jewish husband repeatedly? Is it because she is Islamophobic?

some of which may reinscribe the nation, while others seek to move beyond it through understandings of other forms of sovereignty.

or lunacy. Still, this lady will get some nice reward for anti-India propaganda. But why bother? India is out of Quad in all but name.  The danger that India might ally with America has been averted.

In popular and even scholarly discourses, colonialism is often seen as happening ‘overseas’ – from Europe to somewhere in the Global South.

No. It is not seen as happening at all. It isn't the case that people are upping sticks to go to some new continent currently only inhabited by penguins or guys with sticks through their noses.

Many people see colonialism as something that we are past temporally, despite acknowledgement of its ongoing legacies.

Which only stupid academics teaching worthless shite whine about

Forms of colonialism within the Global South remain more difficult for many to see because many of these regions are geographically contiguous to one another and, thus, seen as having some form of cultural or racial unity that would form a nation.

Colonialism and Emperors who wanted more and more territory ended a long time ago. You may as well gas on about the Spanish Inquisition. Did you know that many so called 'Protestants' nevertheless burn heretics at the stake? Look at Mike Pence.

This results in what Goldie Osuri

a Telugu Christian and anti-India hack. She is also involved in 'Whiteness studies'.

calls a ‘structural concealment of the relationship between postcolonial nation-states and their [own colonies],’ as well as the concealment of ‘the manner in which postcolonial nationalism is also an expansionist project.’ Contemporary colonies – like

Balochistan? Pakistan bought Gwadar from Oman in 1958.

Kashmir,  Western Sahara, Puerto Rico, Palestine, East Turkestan, among others

Puerto Rico? Why not Scotland? How about Wales?

–show the porous boundary between colonialism and postcolonialism, raising some difficult questions about the current global order.

No, they show people who teach stupid shit are stupid shitheads.

The Himalayan region of Kashmir, at the northernmost tip of the subcontinent, is surrounded by India, Pakistan, China and Afghanistan. Kashmir had long been a separate kingdom,

it was part of the Mughal and then the Sikh Empire. It was a British protectorate before the Maharaja acceded to India.

at the confluence of Persian and Indic spheres – hard to simply mark into the Persianate or the Indic (themselves, as Mana Kia points out, somewhat amorphous descriptions). Starting in the 16th century, Kashmir came to be ruled as a province by the Mughal, Afghan, and Sikh empires. When the British ruled the subcontinent, they sold Kashmir to the Dogras, Hindu chiefs from the nearby region of Jammu, in the aftermath of the first Anglo-Sikh War in 1846.

And Oman sold Gwadar to Pakistan. So what?

Under the Dogras, the newly constituted Jammu and Kashmir was

slightly less shite than previously. But it was plenty shite.

one of the larger princely states within the broader ambit of British colonial rule. Its strategic significance in the north of the subcontinent was important for the British, especially during political competition with Russia for influence in Central Asia, known as the Great Game.

Not really. The place was very poor. Still, the Summers there were less horrible than on the Indian plains.

Unlike most princely states, Jammu and Kashmir was one of the few where the religious identity of its ruler was different from those of the majority of its subjects.

There were about 24 non-Muslim majority states ruled by Muslims. There were two or three non-Muslim ruled states with a Muslim majority- e.g. J&K and Kapurthala.

The Dogras were Hindu, while more than three-quarters of the people in the state were Muslim. This perhaps would not have been so significant had the Dogras not effectively run what the historian Mridu Rai has called ‘a Hindu state’, whereby the rulers privileged the Hindu minority and excluded ‘Muslims in the contest for the symbolic, political and economic resources of the state’. Kashmiri Muslims faced immense repression.

As they had from Afghan and other Muslim overlords

Most of them were peasants or artisans, forced to pay high taxes to the Dogra authorities. While an anticolonial movement against the British spread across British India, in Jammu and Kashmir, an anti-Dogra freedom movement gained traction in the 1930s and ’40s, only to be sidelined by the sweeping events across the subcontinent.

Nope. It came to power when Sheikh Abdullah became Premier.

During the Partition of 1947, the territories that the British directly (British India) or indirectly (princely states) governed in the subcontinent became the two new nation-states of India and Pakistan. Independence, and partition, ended nearly two centuries of British colonial rule. Partition was far from inevitable. Leaders of the Muslim League, such as Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, discussed a large federation with largely self-governing autonomous provinces to address the concerns of communities, especially Muslims of the subcontinent, who feared Hindu domination in a democratic India.

The problem was that Muslims liked killing kaffirs. Sadly, Islamists also like killing 'kufr' Muslims who aren't killing kufr Muslims because, obviously, they themselves are fucking kuffar! Kill them! As for the Shias, don't get me started mate.

In 1947, when the British hastily drew the lines that established India and Pakistan, nearly 1 million people were killed and another 15 million displaced in the ensuing violence.

Sadly, Kashmir Valley was not turned over to the tender mercies of tribals who would have raped everybody to death- including the goats.

However, the consolidation of India’s other territorial boundaries was not without incident. Junagadh, a princely state in what is today Gujarat, which had a Muslim ruler but a majority Hindu population, was annexed in February 1948; here, a plebiscite was held and an overwhelming majority voted for India. In September 1948, Nehru violently annexed the princely state of Hyderabad during what was called Operation Polo. Nehru crushed movements for self-determination in Northeastern India, in Nagaland

whose charming inhabitants liked head hunting

and Manipur.

the insurrection began in 1964. Nehru was dead by then.

In mid-1947, in the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, the last Dogra ruler, brutally crushed a local Muslim anti-Dogra rebellion. The rebels wanted Jammu and Kashmir to join Pakistan and were afraid that the Hindu ruler would opt for India. The height of the violence became known as the Jammu Massacre and lasted from October to November 1947.

Hindus and Sikhs ethnically cleansed Muslims so Jammu remained part of India.

The Dogras, supported by Right-wing forces in India, including the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or the ‘National Volunteer Organisation’) ethnically cleansed Muslims from Jammu, changing the demographics of the region from a Muslim to a Hindu majority in a matter of weeks.

Dogras are smart. M.K Rasgotra was a Dogra Brahmin.

After Pathan Muslims from northwest Pakistan joined their coreligionists in the rebellion against the Dogras and were threatening to take over Kashmir, Singh signed a contested Treaty of Accession with the Indian government. By the terms of the treaty, India sent its army into Kashmir in late October 1947. India and Pakistan subsequently went to war and, in January 1948, India took the Kashmir issue to the United Nations. The UN called for a plebiscite or referendum to be held in the region once hostilities ceased (with the options being India or Pakistan). In 1949, the UN brokered a ceasefire line, later renamed the Line of Control, that divided the region between the two countries.

The UN was as useless then as it is now. At the time the US thought Abdullah might be a Commie in disguise. That's one reason the rug was pulled from underneath him. Still, he had pushed through land reform. The Valley began to prosper.

At first, Nehru agreed to the plebiscite, confident that the people of the region would vote for India. Yet, as it became clear that a plebiscite would not go in India’s favour, his commitment to it waned.

No. The Resolution was fatally flawed because it required Pakistan to remove 'tribesmen and Pakistani nationals not normally resident therein who have entered the State for the purposes of fighting, and to prevent any intrusion into the State of such elements and any furnishing of material aid to those fighting in the State.' No government in Pakistan, then or now, could stop tribals rampaging.

While he ostensibly viewed the UN as an important international body tasked with promoting world peace, Nehru resisted a number of UN resolutions. He declared that Pakistan had joined military alliances with the US which made the plebiscite moot.

He was posturing for the benefit of the Indian Left. Still, Abdullah's supporters had started up a Plebiscite front in 1955.

India used other justifications for its opposition to a referendum, asserting that Pakistan had not removed its army from Kashmir, which the UN had called for, and arguing that local elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Constituent Assembly served in lieu of the plebiscite and proved that Kashmiris had opted for India. Nehru maintained that these local elections made a plebiscite redundant. In fact, UN resolutions had called for both countries to remove their troops, but there was no agreement about the manner of troop removal, or their number, nor about the entity that would oversee the plebiscite.

In other words, the resolution was worthless. Why not ask Cows to stop saying 'moo'? That would be cool.

In 1951, the US also stated that local elections in Kashmir were not a substitute for a plebiscite.

Nor was sodomizing goats. But you can't prevent tribal militias from doing so any chance they get.

Within the part of Kashmir that it controlled, the Indian government put client regimes in power that were in support of accession to India, promising them greater autonomy within the Indian union. This autonomy was enshrined in Article 370 of the Indian constitution, which gave the Jammu and Kashmir state ‘special status’ within the Indian Union.

In other words, it would have lower rights. Sheikh Abdullah was cool with that because it meant, when he returned to power, he could push through draconian legislation to incarcerate his opponents.

It ‘allowed’ the state its own constitution, flag and legislative assembly; in addition, the head of the state was called a prime minister, unlike Indian states where the head was a chief minister.

Under Provincial Autonomy, they were 'Prime Ministers'.  J&K's Premier turned into a Chief Minister after 1965.

India was supposed to be responsible for defence, foreign affairs and communication. While India argued that Kashmir’s client regimes and local political leaders were ‘democratically elected’, this was not the case. The first election in 1951 for the local assembly was rigged as the pro-accession National Conference ran unopposed in 73 out of 75 seats. Those who opposed Kashmir’s accession to India were not allowed to run.

Pakistan did get around to holding a free and fair general election some twenty years later. It promptly broke in two. Incidentally, Pak occupied Kashmir is supposedly independent.

Pakistan resisting its troop removal from Kashmir was also based on the argument that a plebiscite could not take place under a local government that was effectively put in power by the Indian state as that would influence the outcome.

Within a few years, India moved beyond the restricted mandate of Article 370, and started to intervene in Kashmir’s internal affairs. Kashmir’s first prime minister and client politician, Sheikh Abdullah, offered some resistance.

His grandson just won the assembly election. It looks as though statehood will be restored next month.

A 1953 coup replaced him with his deputy, Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad. The Indian government would replace him with the next prime minister, G M Sadiq. Meanwhile, Kashmiri resistance to Indian rule grew, as Kashmiris demanded the plebiscite

Abdullah's supporters did that.

recommended by the UN and agreed upon by India and Pakistan.

Not really. There was some talk of Nehru letting go of Kashmir, but that ended when he died. Ayub Khan thought the people of the Valley would welcome Pakistan's army in '65. But they hated Pakistan even more than they hated kaffirs.

In the 1960s, some organised political mobilisations began to speak of a third option – complete independence from both India and Pakistan. Eventually, in the late 1980s, a rigged election and the impact of international developments – including the first Intifada in Palestine and the Afghan defeat of the Soviet Union – sparked an armed rebellion against Indian rule, supported by Pakistan.

Which failed miserably. Pak sponsored terrorists decided killing Pakistanis was safer and more profitable than going across the border and getting slaughtered by the Indian army. Shooting Malala Yousafzai is just so much more satisfying than having some Indian interrogator shove a bumboo up your bum.

India militarised Kashmir at this time, making it the most militarised region in the world.

Both countries need a place to park their soldiers.

The 1990s were a harrowing period in Kashmir, with daily news of killings, massacres, enforced disappearances, sexual violence, torture, crackdowns and arrests.

People in Delhi or Islamabad laughed heartily at such news. But, the problem with terrorism is that it can spill over into your own backyard. Hindu India had less to fear in this regard. Islamic Pakistan has suffered greatly. It can't even protect Chinese nationals. The danger is that Chairman Xi will abandon that bankrupt failed state while forming an alliance with India. After all, Xi wrote the book on how to re-educate Muslim separatists.  I suppose after the Dalai Lama pops his clogs, Nehru's China alliance will be revived.

Protected by draconian laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, the Indian army had (and still has) impunity in its control and governing of Kashmir.

Just like Pakistani army in Azad Kashmir or Balochistan.

As Amnesty International reported in 1995, and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights confirmed in 2018 and 2019, there is a ‘consistent pattern of gross violations of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir’.

Scrapping statehood- thus bringing the police under the central government- turned out to be a great idea. The contrast between the freedom and security on the Indian side of the border and terrorism afflicted Islamic Pakistan has become stark indeed. Still, no doubt, this lady wants Kashmir valley to come under the Taliban so that people without penises are confined to their own homes.

Kashmir is India’s colony.

No. It is an integral part of the Indian Union. Pakistan occupied Kashmir is a colony.

The exercise and expansion of Indian territorial sovereignty, especially in Kashmir, is a colonial exercise.

Only if Texas is a colony of the US and Fort Cavazos hosts an army of occupation.

The exercise of Indian power in Kashmir is coercive, lacks a democratic basis, denies a people self-determination, and is buttressed by an intermediary class of local elites or compradors.

Only in the sense that the exercise of US power in Texas is coercive. Did you know that Islam is not the State religion of Texas? Women there don't even have to wear burqa! How can you say such a place is not the colony of the Satanic kuffar government of Turtle Island?

But it is also colonial because India’s rule in Kashmir relies on logics of more ‘classical’ forms of colonialism from Europe to the Global South:

just like Joe Biden is relying on Jewish logic to befool the innocent Muslims of America so that they are not even knowing they are Muslim!

civilisational discourses, saviourism, mythologies, economic extraction and racialisation. As with all imperial or colonial forces, India has sought to rule over Kashmir through subjugating its people and trampling their rights.

Just as Sir Keir Starmer is presiding over genocide of trillions of Muslims in UK while Joe Biden is personally sodomizing trillions of Netan-Yahoos just because this irks Hamas.

India’s status as a leader of a global anticolonial order

is like Britain's status as a leader of opposition to the Spanish Inquisition.

has made it difficult for the world to see Kashmiris as colonised.

Just as it has become difficult to see that Britain is colonized by Sir Keir Starmer who is busy exterminating trillions of indigenous Muslims.

It has obscured the anticolonial struggle of Kashmiris against India.

Which, sadly, isn't as lucrative as the struggle against the kuffar of Pakistan.

So, there has not been much support for Kashmir’s anticolonial struggle among various solidarity and anticolonial movements around the world.

Support for the Tibetans was and is useless. The same goes for support for Baloch or Ahmadiyas or non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan.

For decades, India insisted that the ‘Kashmir conflict’ was a territorial dispute to be solved between India and Pakistan; in recent years, it has denied that there even is a dispute or conflict in Kashmir. India instead maintains that Pakistan is interfering in India’s ‘internal affairs’.

It claims PoK. Pakistan may realize it was a mistake to pretend the place was independent.

This claim completely erases the agency of Kashmiris who have been demanding their right to self-determination for more than seven decades.

Sadly, this lady's claims don't erase shit.

Today, from Indian leaders on international forums to the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) IT Cell accounts on social media, you will hear that Kashmir is ‘an integral part of India’. The repetition is often supplemented by narratives of a 5,000-year-old Indian civilisation featuring a prominent role for Kashmir or claims that Kashmir simply belongs to Hindus.

How can anything belong to kaffirs? Next you will be saying that Biden has the right to rule US even though he does not have long beard and an Islamic name! Also, why hasn't he forced Kamala to wear burqa and to stab her Jewish husband repeatedly?

In reality, Kashmir’s history is far more vibrant than that conceived of by exclusionary Indian nationalist history;

Sadly, because of the Indian army, its vibrant history could not end with everybody- including the goats- getting raped to death by Afghans

Kashmir defies easy civilisational binaries.

Just like America- which is actually contiguous to Mecca Sharif. Yet, Joe Biden is pretending it is not now nor has always been an integral part of the Caliphate.

Through the Silk Road, Kashmir was a pivotal part of East and Central Asia.

Nope. It didn't matter in the slightest. The place was very poor. Still, it could provide a refuge from Mongol or other invaders from time to time.

Kashmiri traders and travellers journeyed from Srinagar to Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashgar and Tibet.

Also goats used to visit. This was very very important because vibrant goats were embracing Islam and saying 'death to kaffirs!' and 'USA is the Great Satan!'

Just as Kashmir was home to vibrant Sanskrit literature like the Rajatarangini, it was also home to Persian literature, like the Waqiat-i-Kashmir

a chronicle of famine and death

and the Baharistan-i-Shahi.

which was popular amongst goats.

Kashmir does not exclusively belong to any community – it has been home to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims (including Sunnis and Shias) and Sikhs.

What about goats? Were they not very vibrant?

Many Indian scholars, too, replicate the notion that Kashmir is ‘integral’ to India. Viewing Kashmir’s history only from the prism of Indian nationalist frameworks, scholars like Sumit Ganguly and Sumantra Bose are unable to move beyond the need to situate Kashmir firmly within the Indian nation-state.

Which is where it has remained for 75 years.

Even the postcolonial scholar Partha Chatterjee, who, while critical of nationalism and a founder of the field of subaltern studies, conceptualises Kashmir entirely within an Indian constitutional or national framework.

Because Pak army is shit.

Mainly focusing on the events surrounding 1947 in Kashmir, as well as the decades after the armed rebellion of the 1980s, an earlier generation of Indian scholars tried to find answers to the ‘failures’ of Indian democracy to better accommodate Kashmir within its federal structure, refusing to acknowledge the denial of self-determination and imposition of a colonial occupation.

Just like Joe Biden who won't even admit that US troops are forcefully subjugating trillions of Muslim goats in Texas.

More recently, the field of Critical Kashmir Studies has emerged to contest these statist framings, placing the study of Kashmir more firmly into anticolonial and anti-occupation epistemologies.

Sadly, the field of Critical Texan Studies has, as yet, failed to place the study of Tacos on a firmly anti-Biden footing. This is because relevant goats are lacking in vibrancy probably because they are not playing pivotal role in the Silk road.

Scholars of Critical Kashmir Studies

are less vibrant than goats. Sad.

examine how colonialism, settler-colonialism and occupation are all important aspects of India’s relationship with Kashmir, elements of which India has used to fortify its rule in Kashmir over time, and to manage Kashmiri resistance.

Just like the illegal American occupation of Texas.

In truth, Kashmir was made integral to India in the aftermath of Partition.

India has a unitary constitution. There is no 'dual sovereignty' such as is enjoyed by Texas.

Through Kashmir’s client regimes, as well as the type of state-building that occurred under those regimes, India was able to further legally, economically and politically integrate Kashmir into the Indian Union. In my book Colonizing Kashmir (2023), I examine the decade that Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, the second prime minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, was in power, from 1953-63. As a client politician, he was tasked with confirming the state’s contested accession to India, but also with ensuring that Kashmiris realised that being under Indian rule would benefit them.

He was a good administrator. The stupid Kamraj plan ousted him.

The Indian government and Kashmir’s client regimes initially supposed that, if Kashmiris were to see the benefits of Indian rule, alternative political aspirations, such as independence or merging with Pakistan, could be kept at bay. As Nehru is reported to have told his predecessor, Sheikh Abdullah: ‘India would bind Kashmir in golden chains.’

Reported by a liar. India had no fucking gold.

I argue that Bakshi did this by utilising the politics of life, in which the Indian government and Kashmir’s client regimes propagated development, empowerment and progress to secure the wellbeing of Kashmir’s population and to normalise the occupation for multiple audiences.

This proves he was very evil.

In an attempt to secure the livelihoods of Kashmiris, the politics of life entailed foregrounding the day-to-day concerns of employment, food, education and provision of basic services. At the same time, demands for self-determination were heavily repressed.

Not really. Kashmiris are a sensible people.

Policies focused on land reform, building schools and increasing employment opportunities.

Bakshi was acutely invested in financially integrating Kashmir to India. He differed from Abdullah in seeing financial integration as important to development. Between 1953-1954, Bakshi renegotiated Kashmir’s financial relationship with the Indian government, placing certain fiscal demands on the Indian state with regards to grants and agricultural subsidies. The new arrangement also undermined Kashmir’s autonomy, ensuring that it would not be self-sufficient.

i.e. less reliant on medical and educational services provided by goats.

In this way, Kashmir grew dependent on the Indian state,

i.e. it stopped being as poor as shit

which gave the Indian government great leverage. Bakshi’s example is important to understand that colonial occupations are not a one-way process.

Similarly, the fact that Texans have a good standard of living doesn't mean they aren't actually starving Muslims who have been befooled by Biden into thinking they are kaffirs of some disgusting sort.

They require native enablers, local collaborators who have agency in determining its contours.

and are respectably married to other goats

In the 1950s and ’60s, India also turned to film and tourism in order to further India’s colonial occupation of Kashmir, especially for Indian audiences.

The TV series 'Dallas' furthered America's colonial occupation of Muslim majority Texas'- especially for audiences made up of kuffar goats.

Dozens of Indian films, including most of the leading blockbusters like Kashmir Ki Kali (1964) or Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965), were made in Kashmir during this time, and middle- and upper-class Indian tourists flocked to Kashmir throughout the year for fun and adventure.

Pakistan was much nicer than India in that it sent terrorists not tourists.

Through their personal or cinematic experiences of Kashmir’s beautiful landscape – its rivers, lakes, forests and mountains – Kashmir became what Ananya Jahanara Kabir calls a ‘territory of desire’ for the Indian imaginary, consolidating colonial claims.

Just as 'Dallas' consolidated Kuffar colonial claims on the purely Islamic lands of Texas.

Kashmir was also a place of religious attachment for Indian Hindus,

which is why Kashmiris like killing Hindus. Sadly, two can play at that game.

and cultivation of Kashmir’s links with Hinduism was important to the early Indian colonial project.

Whereas killing Hindus and Sikhs was important to the early Pakistani colonial project. Sadly, they eventually had to settle for killing Bengalis, Baloch, Ahmadiyas and each other.

Nehru and other Indian leaders would say that India’s secular ideals (as opposed to Pakistan’s religious ones) were proven superior through its only Muslim-majority state ‘choosing’ India.

Abdullah and his son and his grandson have chosen India. The last named is back in office as Chief Minister.

Despite exploiting Kashmir’s ‘secular credentials’ for international audiences,

which is what America did when it represented pious Texan Muslims as 'cowboys' in films like 'Stagecoach' and 'Red River'.

for domestic ones, India largely presented Kashmir as a Hindu place

Texans were presented as speaking English and going to Church whereas the fact is 1.5 trillion Texans are Arabic speaking Muslims.

and the heart of Indian civilisation from ancient to present times. Muslim monuments, mosques, figures and histories were erased or toned down in tourism materials for Indian travellers.

Who were escaping from supposedly Texan 'cowboys'.

In the dozens of Indian films made in Kashmir

they were typical rich girl loves poor boy or, more complicatedly, poor girl is actually rich girl who loves rich boy who is actually very poor because two babies were swapped at birth or some such hooey.

during this time, it was rare to find a Muslim character, astounding given its Muslim-majority status.

Not astounding given the nature of the films. If the characters involved were Muslim, rich girl can have temporary marriage with poor boy or, if things are the other way around, rich dude can have 4 poor wives and just keep divorcing them as fresh goods enter the market.

Through educational institutions, school curricula and cultural reform, the Indian government and Kashmir’s client regimes have attempted to produce certain kinds of Kashmiris, in particular, good Kashmiri secular subjects.

Why not concentrate on churning out terrorists who will force women to stay at home?

Yet, as a part of this secularism, historical and literary works have foregrounded Hindu geographies, imaginaries and histories, relying on British colonial and Brahmanical understandings of Kashmir’s history. For example, the ‘origin’ story of Kashmir (basically, how the region came to be) used in history curricula and tourism manuals relied on mythological Sanskrit texts like the Rajatarangini. It portrayed Hindus as indigenous or aboriginal to Kashmir, and Kashmir being a place of ancient Hindu learning.

Whereas, as with Texas, Kashmir was actually contiguous with Mecca Sharif. Its original inhabitants spoke Arabic till subjugated by Joe Biden.

Muslims were depicted as ‘invaders’.

Whereas they were actually indigenous terrorists.

Accounts of Kashmir’s past rely on Sanskrit texts (and also conflate mythology with history) while erasing other works in Persian that offer different narratives of history and belonging by drawing upon Kashmir’s significance for the Islamic world.

Sadly, that significance now lies in the fact that if you do terrorism there, your life will be very brief.

In short, Indian nationalist history has relied on Orientalist and Brahmanical renderings of history to help enable anti-Muslim history.

Whereas this lady's history relies on stupidity and ignorance.

This has then furthered the idea that Kashmir is ‘integral’ to India.

Not to mention a place that is lethal for Islamist terrorists.

Bakshi’s decade in power consolidated India’s colonial occupation of Kashmir, but it still did not result in emotionally integrating Kashmiris to the Indian union. The year 1963, when Bakshi was ousted from power, saw the flourishing of large movements for self-determination in Kashmir.

If so, why were Pakistanis not welcomed in 1965?

After the Indian government massively rigged a local election in 1987,

The Nehru dynasty and the Abdullah dynasty were playing silly games. Sadly, both dynasties have grown stronger over the past couple of years.

Kashmiris took up armed resistance.

Hafsa and her parents invaded the US towards this end.

The Indian state resorted to killings, torture and disappearances.

Hafsa and her parents became US citizens. Their taxes helped pay for the slaughter of 1.3 million Muslims and the displacement of tens of millions more in the so called 'war on terror'. No doubt, Hafsa is delighted that the Taliban is back in power in Afghanistan. If only India could be defeated militarily so Kashmiri girls can enjoy the benefits of Sharia law, Hafsa's cup will runneth over.

This does not mean that the decades prior were peaceful –

It did mean the Kashmir Valley didn't turn into a Taliban training camp and US drones didn't keep slaughtering its people. Evil Indian Army was responsible for this tragic outcome.

state repression was high – but that various strategies were foregrounded in different moments, especially in response to Kashmiri resistance and international developments.

In August 2019, India revoked Kashmir’s semi-autonomous status,

thus greatly curbing terrorism and corruption. Now the Abdullahs are back in charge, things will worsen.

fully annexing the region, and advancing its settler-colonial ambitions.

Only in the sense that Hafsa is advancing her settler-colonial ambition to turn the US into an terrorist training camp.

The government revoked laws that had previously restricted land, property and employment rights to Kashmir’s permanent residents.

They remain. Sadly, the Kashimri Muslims colonial-settler desire to dominate Ladakh has been frustrated. Will Jammu be split off or will it be left to the tender mercies of the corrupt Abdullah clan?

These restrictions had been insisted upon by Kashmir’s earlier client regimes to protect the demographics of the Muslim-majority state. Jammu and Kashmir’s Muslims now fear demographic change and an accelerated settler-colonial agenda by which Indian (Hindus) can now buy land and property and settle in the region, undermining the movement for self-determination. Indian officials are already on the record calling for ‘Israeli-like’ settlements to be built in Kashmir for Hindus.

Christian Americans may equally fear Islamist settler-colonialism. Did you know Muslims are buying property in your neighborhood? This is because they plan to eat your puppy dog.

The Modi government’s removal of Article 370 was based on a

decision by the Supreme Court which said the place had 'no shred of sovereignty'.

long-standing demand by Hindu nationalists

those evil bastards don't want Muslim girls to be shot in the head if they have the temerity to go to school

who felt unhappy that the Indian state under the Indian National Congress was trying to appease Kashmir’s Muslims with promises of autonomy.

Indira Gandhi didn't offer anyone autonomy. She offered them forced sterilization. Still, it must be said, had she been alive, there would have been no ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Pandits.

This decision was immensely popular in India.

though the biggest beneficiary was the Kashmir Valley.

Today, India is again using the politics of life, or the idea that it is benefiting Kashmiris through development and better opportunity to justify the abrogation, while also using film and tourism to declare normalcy.

India just keeps winning. Evil Indians in America may also prevent Islamist Colonialist in that country from properly slaughtering kaffirs there. Also, did you know many American girls go to school? Why is Biden not arranging for them to be shot in the head?

In the current phase of Indian control, the Indian state has completely undermined civil society.

i.e. shooting school girls in the head.

All possible modes of dissent – from pro-freedom groups

who enjoy shooting school-girls in the head

to journalism,

praising bearded dudes who shoot school-girls in the head

academia and human rights organisations

shitty blathershites.

– have been clinically silenced.

Not, sadly, with bullets in the head. Even evil Indian bastards understand that only school-girls deserve  this benefit.

From internet shutdowns, to the arrests of journalists or human rights defenders, to the surveilling of social media sites and restricting movement by suspending passports, India has left no stone unturned to criminalise

terrorism. Indeed, they are even cracking down on corruption. Who will shoot school-girls in the head if this terrorism continues?

political speech and project normalcy to domestic or international audiences. A new description of ‘white-collar terrorist’ is given to anyone who contests Indian sovereignty, and anti-terror legislation is used against all forms of expression, including for example, against students cheering for the Pakistani cricket team, as happened last year.

Cricket is un-Islamic. Shoot them in the head- more particularly if they are female.

Because Kashmiri Muslims fear losing their livelihoods or property, many have been forced to resort to self-censorship.

Whereas, in America, Nafsa's family didn't need to self-censor. They loudly condemned America's war on terror. Sadly they failed to shoot their daughter in the head even though she went to school.

The United Arab Emirates and Israel have signed agreements with the Indian government, ensuring foreign investment for Kashmir. India has long exploited Kashmir’s natural resources, including water. During the cold winter months, Kashmiris face electricity scarcity and loadshedding. Yet India sells Kashmir’s hydroelectric power to Rajasthan and other states.

Sadly, it is refusing to shoot Kashmiri school-girls in the head.

Kashmir could see escalating climate disaster; experts have long warned about its receding glaciers and other ecological fragilities, exacerbated by decades of military occupation.

by Pakistan and China. Incidentally Pak handed over some of its captured Kashmiri territory to China.

With the Indian government giving contracts to Indian companies to mine for minerals,

like Pakistan, it should be giving contracts to Chinese companies. Also, why did India not host Osama bin Laden? Why is Pakistan alone having to provide hospitality to all sorts of Islamist nutjobs? Where is the Indian Malala Yousafzai? Why are Indians not shooting school-girls in the head? It is because they have 'settler-colonial' mentality just like Americans or Britishers?

Kashmir is further vulnerable as these companies do not adhere to environmental regulations, nor do they have knowledge of the local ecology.

Islamists adhere to environmental regulations. To promote sustainability they shoot school-girls in the head.

India’s contemporary colonisation is defined by surveillance technology, the arms trade, neoliberal resource extraction, criminalisation of all forms of dissent, and climate change.

All that is well and good but what about shooting school-girl's in the head? How is it that only Islamist nutters are bothering with this vital activity?

Many countries around the world have their own Kashmirs,

some do have budding Islamic terrorists who want to kill kaffirs. However, many Muslim countries don't tolerate any such people and kill them before they can start killing.

places they have subjugated either through overt forms of violence or through assimilating forms of control, and at times both.

Hafsa and family were eager to emigrate and take citizenship in the country which, in this century, has killed more Muslims than any other non-Muslim power. Perhaps, she like Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai gets some cash from the Pakistanis. If so she needs to register as a foreign agent. Otherwise she may go to jail.

Contemporary forms of colonialism exist across authoritarian and democratic governments.

No. The age of slavery and colonies and empires has passed. It was succeeded by an age of immigration from shithole countries to places still ruled by White peeps. If Kamala Harris becomes POTUS, she will be the first President both of whose parents were immigrants. This may cause some bigots to say that America has been colonized by puppy dog devouring invaders. Otherwise, such outcome would be impossible in a genuine democracy.

In the case of India, they exist in a country that claims to be the largest democracy in the world.

It is a democracy. Abdullah's grandson is back in power as Chief Minister in Srinagar. Perhaps Nehru's great-grandson will achieve something similar in Delhi. But this will only happen if his party gets more votes. As for terrorists or nutters like Hafsa, nobody gives a shit about them. If they kill, they are quickly killed. If they tell stupid lies, we denounce them as stupid liars who have invaded America and eaten everybody's pussy.

The case of Kashmir not only challenges this claim but contests the idea of India altogether.

This stupid woman does not realize that a democracy can do ethnic cleansing just as well as a monarchy or a dictatorship. Why didn't India change the demographics of the Valley? The answer, I'm afraid, is that Kashmiri Muslims are hard working, cultured and very very enterprising. Let them grow rich through trade and commerce. That way everybody wins even if the Pakistanis feel jelly.

Umar Lateef Misgar's zombie necropolitics.

Umar Lateef Misgar- a Muslim journalist from Kashmir, from which Hindu Pandits have been ethnically cleansed- has an article in Aeon from which I extract this-

I grew up in India-administered Kashmir, a region marred by decades of conflict, popular insurgency and ferocious counterinsurgency.

The Hindu minority was ethnically cleansed from there in the early Nineties. Even now any 'Pandit' who has had the temerity to return is liable to get shot.

Here, the idea of politicoreligious sacred death remains a pervasive and omnipresent feature of daily life.

Killing Hindus is rewarded.  But there is also money for kids who throw stones and bolder souls who might go on to more murderous types of mayhem. This is not a cult of martyrdom so much as a diaspora funded industry of attritional death dealing.

Those believed to have been slain for the cause of Kashmir’s freedom, and Islam, are popularly revered within the social milieu as their families receive increased social acceptance and status.

And money. This is classic 'altruistic suicide'. The problem is that Israel can make more money selling anti-terrorist tech than any loss or nuisance it itself sustains. Ultimately, control of territory isn't just about relative kill-rates. It is about whether investment in killing can pay for itself or, indeed, turn a profit.

Before burial, the bodies are displayed openly in large funerary processions. After attempting to touch the feet, face, beard or torso of these bodies, the mourners caress their chests or faces, as if to gather piousness. The bodies are then buried in special graveyards that are spread across Kashmir’s towns and villages. During these funerals, family members apply henna on the hands and feet of their slain kin, in addition to showering them with sweets. This is done in imitation of the rituals that are generally carried out during elaborate marriage ceremonies in Kashmir. The performance that follows death is a mix of celebration and mourning. They celebrate because the dead have received the highest level of spiritual salvation that can be accorded to a Muslim: Jannah (paradise).

Predictably, the authorities have changed tactics and- as Obama did with Osama's corpse- themselves  dispose of the bodies of the slain.

The history of martyrdom in the Abrahamic traditions shows the strategic role that sacred death played in the formation of these faiths – a ‘strategy’ that furthered spiritual and political aims.

Sadly, once invaders massacre civilian populations, the cult of the martyr declines. If 'spiritual and political aims' are economically stupid, they die out because there are always cheaper ways of killing people or leaving them to starve.

Through these traditions, death became discursively understood not only as a ‘perfect’ act in the present, or a way of living forever, but also a means of resisting oppression and creating change.

Not among the Uighurs in Xi's China. The question is whether 're-educated' Uighurs become productive enough to pay for the kind attentions of Communist Party goons.

But, in Kashmir, sacred death takes on an explicitly political register.

As does killing Hindus.

Often, the only dissentious politics that can be performed in Kashmir revolves around death.

e.g. killing Hindus.

On university or college campuses, where unionising and campaigning remains virtually banned, students often organise funeral prayers for those who they believe are martyrs.

Come to think of it, I might have chosen to be a suicide bomber if the alternative was having to pass the Calculus exam.

However, state authorities have now put an end to these funerary processions by refusing to return the bodies of slain Kashmiris to their families. Instead, they are buried discreetly in faraway border areas. Halting this performative culture of martyrdom was seen as a strategic victory by one of the region’s top-ranking police officials because the observance of large-scale funerary processions significantly enabled recruitment within insurgent ranks.

Indeed. The thing was a no brainer. Obama set the example and even stupid Indian cops could follow it.

The seizure of bodies by state officials and the performative culture of martyrdom used by Kashmiris to express political resistance reveal the critical position of death within the region’s politics.

Does it though? Killing terrorists and then knocking down their houses and gradually picking up family members and torturing them till they turn informer is the tried and tested method. But, why kill when you can simply bleed a community dry? What if that is the type of 'Tiebout Model' which yields highest manorial rent and thus increasingly prevails?

The notion of death remains an active core around which the insurgency coalesces. At the end of dogged gunfights between insurgents and the Indian military, dead rebel recruits are often found carrying extremely low-grade weaponry or no weapons at all.

Still, their recruiter gets paid. Other people's lives are cheap, but that's a good thing when it comes to a volume business.

This points towards an alternative motivation, beyond material gains, that seems to drive the Kashmiri insurgency against the state’s military structures. This motivation becomes more stark in the visual material created by these young men in the immediate aftermath of joining the insurgency. In pictures and videos, the insurgent is seen touting a gun and pointing the index finger of his right hand to the sky, signifying the Shahada or ‘witnessing’ of the oneness of God. The Arabic term for martyrdom, ‘shaheed’, which appears in the Quran, literally refers to the act of witnessing. Etymologically, this is close to the English, Greek and Syriac words ‘martyr’, ‘martus’ and ‘sahda’, respectively, which all refer to the act of witnessing.

The Jewish veneration of the Ten Martyrs  is likely to have influenced the religions descended from Judaism. Sadly, mere witnesses of the military victories of others retain no territory in this world.

In recent times, the insurgents and their families have also recorded what are known as ‘last calls’ or ‘final calls’. In these phone conversations, an insurgent, who is engaged in a gunfight with the Indian military and has no hope of escaping alive, calls back home for a final farewell. These deeply personal and intense phone calls, which are recorded and then circulated on social media, give insight into the dynamics of the insurgency in Kashmir, illuminating the motivations that drive Muslims to fight despite facing overwhelming odds against India’s enormous counterinsurgency grid.

These calls also help counter-insurgency forces identify the networks involved. That which is theatrical is also that which is stupid. Lives can be swapped for territory but only if military strategy is sound.

In the calls, pleasantries are exchanged before the young insurgents emphasise their proximate martyrdom for the sake of Islam, and urge others to carry forward ‘the mission’, a euphemism for armed insurgency against the Indian state.

There is certainly plenty more scope for ethnic cleansing in South Asia. But there will be a tribal, as much as a confessional, basis to it.

This practice of death as politics appears in other contemporary contexts, most prominently in Palestine.

where that practice of death has failed spectacularly

In December 2022, Palestinians mourned the killing of 23-year-old Ahmed Daraghmeh, a

former soccer player who worked for Hamas. He was killed while firing on Israelis.

professional soccer player.

While, in Dubai, Jews celebrated Hanukkah in the first kosher supermarket. The Palestinians exported terror but terror is brainless shite and there will always be a cheaper supplier of cannon fodder. The Israelis export smart, knowledge based, means of getting the better of mindless murderers.

He was killed by the Israeli military during a raid on the West Bank city of Nablus.

No. The Israelis were escorting civilians to Josheph's Tomb. The problem with Palestinian propaganda is that nobody believes any of it. Israeli propaganda, on the other hand, has some basis in truth but only because Israelis gain by appearing smarter than their opponents.

His funeral was attended by hundreds if not thousands of people, and turned into a site of protest against the occupation.

Which suited Netanyahu just fine. He's back in power.

Whether it be after the killing of a Palestinian civilian or of a militant commander, funerary processions have always been potent settings for Palestinians to express political resistance to the Israeli occupation.

But Palestinians are now seen as stupid. Other Arabs think they should keep quiet and take one for the team.  The real enemy is Iran.

An important Arabic term in the context of Palestinian self-sacrifice and martyrdom is ‘Istishhad’.

It is a term synonomous with stupidity and failure.

According to Bassam Yousef Ibrahim Banat,

who has been saying for many years now that suicide bombers represent 'helpless and unarmed Palestinians whereas we can see on our TV screens that the Gaza strip has lots of rockets which it keeps firing at Israel.

a Palestinian sociologist, the term denotes the act of self-sacrifice for the cause of Palestinian liberation. Banat writes:
Self-sacrificing for the sake of the group is a term expressed by Palestinians through the ‘Istishhady’ (suicide martyr) which has religious and popular significances given to the person, who with premeditation and full consciousness, makes a decisive decision to sacrifice himself.'

But this 'decisive decision' involves trying to kill other people. The plain fact is murderers aren't greatly liked by those they target. Indeed, they might kill them pre-emptively. Still, Israel benefits by this drama but then Israel is a special case.

How should we grapple with what is at stake in this fraught dynamic of death, power and politics?

Concentrate on the death and power. The politics doesn't matter though, prima facie, the opposite seems to be the case.

For Achille Mbembe, the Cameroonian public intellectual and critical theorist, manifestations of power and sovereignty are forms of ‘necropolitics’.

Coz Foucault babbled about biopolitics, Mbembe invented something equally nonsensical so as to get tenure and make money.

From this perspective, contemporary power is the condition of wielding death: being able to apply it, withhold it, prolong it. This power, Mbembe demonstrates, has led to the creation of ‘death-worlds’ inhabited by ‘living dead’.

as opposed to the brainless zombies who inhabit the sort of shitty campuses this guy makes his living in

But death and politics are tangled in complex ways. To conceptualise the subversion of necropolitics, Mbembe uses the figure of a Palestinian suicide bomber.

Coz there are plenty of them in Cameroon right? Why does nobody mention the Anglophone war in Senegal? Thousands have been killed and half a million people have been displaced.

The long history of martyrdom in the Abrahamic traditions, or Kashmir, provide other examples.

No. History shows martyrdom is meaningless. Military strength, which in turn entails economic power, is what determines every type of politics- even that of brainless zombies teaching shite to shitheads.

But the question remains: what utilitarian political end, if any, does death serve, especially in the contexts of unpopular rule, armed insurgency, and sovereign necropolitical death?

If guys are queuing up to die uselessly- they are losers. Violence is a learned skill. Superior technology enables higher productivity in inflicting death. That's what matters.

G W F Hegel has one response.

No he didn't. He was perfectly sensible. He understood that Germany needed to get a lot better at killing people by raising productivity and making technological advances. Like Kant, he was writing about how a Beamten class should approach their service to the State.

Hegel describes voluntary encounters with death as non-nihilistic, and maintains that these acts form an essential element of subject-formation.

Within a specific dialectical process in which poorly educated Muslims were doomed to extinction or subjection by better educated peoples.

Confronting death, whether as an individual or collective, inevitably transforms the subjective experience of the living or those left behind.

Why confront death? Just pay your taxes so the bad guys get blown up in their caves or tents or whatever.

In any case, Muslims in South Asia- including Kashmir Valley- have done plenty of killing and ethnic cleansing. Whatever 'transformation' has occurred in their 'subjective experience', it isn't one that has been useful or attractive to anybody.

Terry Eagleton, the Marxist literary critic and public intellectual, has another response.

The fucker is very very old. He doesn't get that Marx and Freud were shit.

In his treatise on martyrdom, Radical Sacrifice (2020), Eagleton writes about the ways that voluntary death can overcome the ‘demonic compulsion’ of the Freudian death drive

which doesn't fucking exist. Why not speak of a drive to hand over cash to fraudsters?

and transform what appears to be a necessity into a practice of freedom.

in the same manner that you could transform shoving your fist up your arse into a practice of democracy.

When everyday life is pervasively animated by oppressive forms of enforced death, can death itself be appropriated and turned into an act of resistance and freedom?

Sure- why not? But what would be cool is if we appropriate the death of Literary Theory and turn it into an act of resistance to boredom.

Death is a preferable form of political expression for people oppressed by conditions that stretch across time

No it isn't. Kashmiri Hindus don't want to be killed. True, they also don't want to be oppressed but if Muslims are in the majority in the area, they may be shit out of luck.

Eagleton is not the only one thinking of death as freedom.

But Eagleton doesn't come from a religion which kills Hindus.

In Starve and Immolate (2014), the political theorist Banu Bargu

who is Turkish, and does

continues this thread by offering an alternative to sovereign necropolitics: necroresistance.

Brain dead, zombie political theory will obviously bang on about necro this and necro that.

Modi's political theory & Uday Chandra as a donkey in burqa

Traditional Indian political theory was based on the 'mandala'. The kingdom is surrounded by hostile Kings. But those Kings are themselves encircled by those hostile to them. The enemy of your enemy is your friend. Equally, there may be a common commitment to a 'balance of power' simply because even if you can ally with others to devour a portion of your neighbor, the same thing might happen to you and your allies, if those who encircle you can ally with each other. What is true of Kingdoms is true of Kings. Those who surround them are scheming to usurp the throne. But the potential usurpers too may be devoured by the larger number of the less privileged who surround them. The King keeps his enemies close because his only true friends are the enemies of his enemies currently darting hungry looks at 'the inner circle'.

After the killing of Rajiv, Indian politics at the center appeared 'mandala' based. The blue-blooded VP Singh had tried to establish his supremacy by granting reservations to the 'backward castes' as the Mandal commission required. The BJP was supposed to be using the Ram Mandir (Temple for Lord Ram) issue to neutralize 'Mandal' and get Hindu vote consolidation across castes. But, in an era of coalition governments, weak Prime Ministers could hope to stay in power by the deft use of 'mandala' politics- i.e. appointing enemies to Cabinet seats in the hope that their mutual suspicion and hatred would cancel out their mutual desire to get rid of the tosser in the top job.

Vajpayee, finally gaining power, adopted a Nehruvian version of mandala theory whereby virtuous behaviour (e.g. Panchseel) would cause a 'Nash equilibrium' balance of power to move away from suspicion and mutual hatred to benevolence and niceness and everybody quoting poetry to each other. Since Vajpayee was somewhat senile, his advisor Brajesh Mishra ran things and a false confidence was created that India was 'shining'. The trouble was that the BJP wasn't actually very much better at governance than other parties. Moreover, as in Gujarat under Keshubhai, it was factionalized and caste ridden and filled with endless intrigue.

Modi was put in as CM of Gujarat- though he'd never contested elections or held public office- at the age of 51. Most people thought this reckless of him. He should have been content to be Deputy CM. Moreover he should have kept on the Home Minister and provided himself with various other such alibis for poor performance.

With hindsight, we might say that Modi's political theory was to reject Mandala theory as well as Mandal or Mandir politics. His insight was to see that only governance- last mile delivery- matters. He was the new CEO appointing his own team and keeping a laser like focus on governance and grass-roots booth management. This was the message he kept hammering home. The CM does not have any magical or supernatural powers. If bad shit happens it is because of bad governance and bad attitudes and bad ideas having currency amongst the population. He, as CM, wanted to work with everybody to improve governance. He didn't care about intrigue and playing one rival off against another. He wasn't even particularly interested in elections. He made a virtue of the fact that he'd never stood for elections, even as a student before becoming CM. He said he'd reward Panchayats which elected Pradhans unanimously with extra money. This was modern Management theory kicking out Mandala theory. It was a spectacular success. Congress, despite Ahmed Patel's warnings, turned Modi into a National and international figure by painting him as anti-Muslim. But India wasn't killing Muslims. The West- in its horrific 'war on terror'- was doing so with vim and vigour. American soldiers- including female soldiers- were inflicting sexual torture on Arab prisoners. The West promised Democracy and Human Rights and a prosperous future but what they created was corruption and a complete breakdown of Society. The anger of Muslims at this outcome can't be deflected by pretending that Modi was a monster because he didn't kill Muslims. Blair and Bush and then Obama and Cameron and Sarkozy killed Muslims. Finally, Iran and the Taliban and Putin and Xi emerged victorious from a stupid, corrupt, war of revenge.

The Western Academy hasn't officially changed its view of Modi. But there are some straws in the wind suggesting that some of the fanaticism has abated. But this is only because utter fatuity, and a craven currying of favour with Oil Sheikhs, has replaced it.

The following is a summary of a talk given by a young Indian origin Associate Professor at Georgetown, Qatar. The venue was Kings College London

The political theory of Narendra Modi: Provisional notes on Hindutva and democracy in contemporary India. Uday Chandra - 14 May 2021
Few, if any, would regard Narendra Modi as a political theorist.
Because, few, if any, think 'political theorist' doesn't mean 'worthless shithead'
His supporters see him as a man of relentless action, including the crafting of new words, acronyms, and slogans that circulate online and offline.

Everybody sees him as an active and intelligent man who has outstanding communication skills.

His critics, too, view him as a man committed to praxis over theoria.

Pragmatism is itself a political and philosophical theory. There's a little place called the US of A which went in for that philosophy big time.

Nonetheless, a close study of Modi's speeches at critical junctures - his post-election victory speeches in 2014 and 2019 as well as justifications for demonetization, GST, the end of Article 370, COVID-19 lockdowns, and the recent farm laws - reveals four surprising insights.

Which weren't surprising at all for those who had been following his career as CM of Gujarat.

Firstly, Modi's speeches, taken together, reveal a distinct conception of democracy as a socio-political ideal that is hierarchical and egalitarian at the same time.

Everyone has such a conception. We understand that a 'chai-wallah' can become Prime Minister and that the latter job is more prestigious than the former.

Such a conception departs from conventional models of "polyarchy"

there are no such models. Dahl said America was actually a Polyarchy. Americans ignored him. Sad.

or pluralistic,

India rejected pluralism. It is more unitary than the US.

even agonistic,

Indian political discourse is agonistic. Communists are allowed to say that Religion is shit and the Religious are allowed to say that Marx ate his own faeces.

forms of democracy as a type of regime.

India's regime is of a type NATO can't change. That's what matters.

Secondly, with respect to Hindutva, a concept coined by V.D. Savarkar

Chandranath Basu coined it in 1890 when Savarkar was 7 years old. Tilak had used the term.

to describe a new political religion that seeks to incorporate all members of an imagined Indian polity as "political Hindus,"

The context was Protestants in Southern Ireland demonstrating willingness to stay on in what would almost certainly be a Catholic Republic. Ascendancy Protestants suddenly started learning Gaelic and scoffing at the Sassenach. After the treaty of Lausanne, it was obvious that when Empires end, either language or religion would decide where national boundaries would lie. If Indian Muslims were prepared to concede a sort of cultural affinity with Hindus, Partition could be avoided.

Modi has vernacularized this quirky concept vis-a-vis the twin, hitherto antagonistic, languages of Mandal and Mandir.

No. He steered clear of both because his message had to do with Governance. The PM is merely the CEO of a Company which is paid to provide certain goods and services. If you aren't getting your entitlement, please text me on my cellphone. My people will get back to you with a solution within a couple of days. Otherwise you will kick us out of office and choose a different supplier.

Thirdly, no prime minister, not even Jawaharlal Nehru or Indira Gandhi, has spoken more to persuade Indians that the state ought to remain the sole arbiter on all economic matters,

This is nonsense. Nehru spoke about this as did Indira. Both presided over a massive increase in the economic power of the State. But, under Narasimha Rao, more and more of such power had to be given up. Modi continued the trend. He abolished the Planning Commission.

and that a market economy does not (and should not) imply a market society composed of amoral individuals transacting with each other.

Mrs. Thatcher, on the other hand, demanded that babies should be sold off to the highest bidder- even if that bidder happens to be a cannibal.

Fourthly, if Modi is to be believed, the unity of India cannot rest on the flimsy old premises of sarva-dharma-sambhava secularism or federalism with a unitary bias.

There is no evidence whatsoever for this view. India's unity rests on its Army kicking ass. But there has to be reform even in military matters. The Agnipath scheme is an example.

Instead, national unity, indeed the nation itself, can be secured only by the permanent subjugation of the Muslim Other within national borders,

This was done along with plenty of ethnic cleansing by Nehru.

especially in Kashmir,

Nehru jailed his pal Sheikh Abdullah

and the strategic containment and downgrading of India's Muslim-majority neighbors in South Asia.

Bangladesh is such a country. Is this clown pretending that India needs to 'contain' or 'downgrade' it? As for Pakistan, it was Indira who took its pants down and forced it to stop committing genocide in East Bengal.

Pakistan can't contain its own shittiness. That is what is downgrading the fuck out of it. Bangladesh now has sixty percent higher per capita income than its erstwhile oppressor.

Modi as a politician, I suggest, may have limited electoral appeal to a third or so of Indian voters.

Why suggest any such thing unless you are paid to do by the BJP?

But, if surveys conducted by CSDS during the ongoing pandemic, his political appeal goes beyond elections and voters,

Modi has reached out to kids with his 'Exam warrior' book & live interactions with students. But kids soon grown up to become voters. Thus he is still only focusing his political appeal on Indian voters. He does court elements of the Diaspora but only because they have influence back home.

and if we go by Modi's justifications for major policy decisions such as demonetization

which yielded a political bonanza and safeguarded his administration from any future anti-corruption agitation.

and the forced return of migrant workers to their rural homes,

there was no 'forced return'. This cretin lives in a fantasy world. An unauthorized return did take place. It was wholly voluntary.

they resonate with roughly double of those who may vote for the BJP.

What this cretin means is that Modi has much higher approval than his Party. But many Indians live in States where the BJP has a negligible political presence.

The implications of Modi the theorist for both Hindutva and democracy in India are worth pondering in ways that challenge our conceptions of both.

People like Prashant Kishore understood that Modi had made Indian politics about 'last mile delivery'. Pondering how to choose the things politicians can deliver such that voters reward them is a lucrative business. Kishore hasn't just made money and a name for himself. He has fundamentally changed how many political parties operate. Meanwhile only the stupidest and craziest young people become Professors of shite subjects.

To be fair, Uday vc teaches in Qatar which is aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood and Turkey. He wrote the following article in al Jazeera.

On August 5, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a Hindu temple in the northern city of Ayodhya. This fulfilled the orders of India’s Supreme Court, which last November awarded a victory to those who have long been campaigning to build a temple there, in place of a Mughal-era mosque that was demolished by a right-wing Hindu mob in 1992. The speculation that the mosque was built on the ruins of an ancient temple marking the mythological birthplace of the epic hero Ram remains unproven.

What was proven was that the temple deity- which has legal personality- had continuous possession because Hindu ritual worship at that place had ben continuous. By contrast, no Muslim worship had occurred there since the late Nineteen Forties. In Islamic law, it was not a mosque because it was not being used for Islamic worship.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the temple was set on that particular date to commemorate the altering of the country’s constitution to justify a shift from indirect to direct colonialism in the disputed Muslim-majority region of Jammu and Kashmir exactly a year ago.

It was a 2016 decision of the Supreme Court which upheld the view that J&K had 'no shred' of sovereignty. The State has frequently been under direct rule. Muslims in the Valley ethnically cleansed Hindus not so long ago.

The temple construction in Ayodhya, just like the constitutional amendment that revoked the Indian-administered Kashmir’s limited autonomy,

The Bench had already said there was no autonomy of any type.

is a calculated move by the Modi government to consolidate the new majoritarian polity in India.

But that majoritarianism triumphed in 1947. Nehru presided over the ethnic cleansing of Muslims, the forcible incorporation of two Muslim ruled Princely States, and military intervention in Kashmir to prevent it from being overrun by Pakistan. Muslims lost reserved seats in Parliament and cow protection was made a Directive Principle of the Constitution.

Today, we are witnessing the final stages of the project to remake India into a Hindu nation,

which happened once and for all in 1947. First Buddhist Burma went its own way and then the Muslim majority areas did so- where they could.

but little is being said about the fabulous falsehoods and cunning sleights of hand that this ambitious project was built upon.

This guy is telling lies to get paid a little money.

Colonial origins

The word “Hindu” is a Persianate derivative of “Sindhu”, Sanskrit for the Indus River.

And India is a Greek derivative. The word 'Arab', however is more recent and probably refers to the desert. In the Quran Sharif it is written- الأعراب أشدّ كفرًا و نفاقًا. Here Arab is translated as desert dwelling Bedouins who 'were the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy'.

Only during India’s colonial encounter in the 19th century did “Hindu” become an ascriptive label for a wide range of practices and ideas across South Asia that do not fall within the three world religions labelled “Islam”, “Christianity”, and “Buddhism”.

Not according to Islamic or Buddhist or Christian scholars. Hinduism was considered to be Brahmanism and the Vedas were known to be the scripture of the vast majority of Indian people.

Why is this cretin pretending Hinduism isn't a world religion? People from Qatar can see for themselves, in Birmingham or Boston or Bali that the opposite is the case.

But this term defined by negation did not mean much to those located within a mosaic of Indic ritual and philosophical traditions that lacked a holy book based on divine revelation.

The Vedas are just such a Holy Scripture.

Scholars have attributed the invention of “Hinduism” as much to men from dominant castes who sought to reform and remake a colonised society as to colonial missionaries.

Islamic scholars did not such thing. Their own people would have laughed at them. Al Biruni wrote a book about India in the early eleventh century. The following is a quote-

‘The belief of educated and uneducated people differs in every nation; for the former strive to conceive abstract ideas and to define general principles, while the latter do not pass beyond the apprehension of the senses and are content with derived rules, without caring for details, especially in questions of religion and law, regarding which opinions and interests are divided.

With regard to God, the Hindus believe that he is one, eternal, without beginning and end, acting by free will, almighty, all-wise, living, giving life, ruling, and preserving; one who is unique in his sovereignty, beyond all likeness and unlikeness, and neither resembling anything nor having anything resemble him. In order to illustrate this, we shall produce some extracts from the _Hindu literature, lest the reader should think that our account is nothing but hearsay.

In the book of Patanjali the pupil asks: “Who is the worshipped one, by the worship of whom blessing is obtained?” The master says: “It is he who, being eternal and unique, does not for his part stand in need of any human action for which he might give as a recompense either a blissful repose, which is hoped and longed for, or a troubled existence, which is feared and dreaded. He is unattainable to thought, being sublime beyond all unlikeness which is abhorrent and all likeness which is sympathetic. By his essence he knows from all eternity.

It seems Georgetown University, Qatar, has appointed a Professor who is more ignorant that an Iranian who lived almost a thousand years ago! Truly, the Americans must be laughing themselves sick over the stupidity of the Qataris who are paying for this fraud
These 19th-century reformers sought to go back to ancient texts such as the Vedas or the Upanishads

which they had learnt from boyhood because they were part of the curriculum for Hindu priests or those descended from such.

to propose a de-ritualised, quasi-monotheistic creed for a modern India.

Monist, not monotheistic. This cretin can't grasp the distinction.

Such a move mimicked the textualist methods of the Protestant Reformation,

which mimicked the textualist methods of the Catholics who mimicked those of the Hellenized Jews

and the then fashionable European efforts to appropriate ancient Sanskrit spiritual texts to construct an “Aryan” race identity.

Because most European languages are related to Persian and North Indian languages.

The reformers were answering British criticisms of Indic polytheisms as “beastly” and “superstitious”.

Not to mention Muslim criticisms of a similar sort.

They enthusiastically embraced the colonial view of Muslims being wholly separate from Hindus, ignoring the accommodations and intermixing over centuries that had produced shared ritual, intellectual, sartorial, culinary, and musical traditions between the two groups.

But it was Muslims in Pakistan who went the extra mile in ethnically cleansing Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists. The question is whether Shias are safe or whether they will go the way of the Ahmadiyas.

As the reforming Hindu men worked to draw sharp lines between “Hindus” and “Muslims”,

which Islam had already drawn

the newly emerging print media became their accomplice.

Whereas print languished in the Muslim world. That's why Iranians ended up reading Farsi works edited by Hindu Kayasthas and published in Bombay or Calcutta.

The adoption of the Nagri script by reformist groups such as the Arya Samaj contrasted with the shared orality of a public sphere defined by the Hindustani language.

India adopted Hindi in Nagari script as its official language after Independence.

Devanagari, the divine Nagri as it became known, also started to be used alongside Urdu and English in the new world of print technology, helping reformists in their efforts to create a distinct Hindu identity.

Nonsense! Bengali kept its own script as did Gujarat. Devanagari was adopted for Hindi, Marathi & Nepali. But differences of script did not undermine a common Hindu identity.

Then, as it is now, the chief obstacle to transforming India into a Hindu nation was the caste system

actually this was the chief obstacle to the conversion of India.

which divided society into strict hierarchical groups.

No. Wealth and power did so. Caste was notional and confined to a ritual context. Judaism makes a distinction between Cohens, Levites and the rest. In Shia Islam, the distinction between Sayyads and others continues to have salience.

To accommodate the lower orders of society, the conservatism of the Brahmins, the traditional priestly class who sit atop the rigid caste hierarchy, had to be diluted.

This was generally done by Brahmins.

But to de-brahminise Hinduism would have dissolved the abstract new polity of the reformers’ imagination into a melange of lived traditions across the localities and regions of India.

But Brahmins recognize that Hinduism subsists even if all the Brahmins are killed off by Kshatriyas or Hunas or whatever.

From the colonial to the post-colonial

A century ago, the arrival of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi on the political scene provided a solution to the reformers’ dilemma.

The Boer War turned the eyes of the world to South Africa. The INC began to hear of what Gandhi- an ultra-loyalist- was getting up to there.  Gandhi started moving in a more radical direction after meeting Bhai Parmanand of the Arya Samaj in October 1905. The very next year, Gandhi embraced celibacy- like Aurobindo.

Gandhi claimed that his religion as much as that of most “Hindus” was Sanatan Dharma, the perennial faith, not the new-fangled textual abstractions put forward by the reformers.

He never said a word against the Arya or Brahmo Samaj. This cretin is making this shit up.

Caste, he argued, was a necessary evil in the subcontinental life. It could neither be wished away nor reformed out of existence.

Gandhi said a lot of silly and contradictory things at various points in his career. So what?

A hierarchical society, suggested Gandhi, could learn to be humane and to avoid excesses.

Qatar's society is hierarchical but it will never be humane. The question is whether its rulers will stick around to experience the 'excesses' the vast majority of its residents will inflict on them once America abandons it. I know there are plenty of disgruntled Pakistanis in that kingdom who are just itching to turn the tables on their masters.

Vertical hierarchies could be held together by horizontal alliances between those of similar rank, whether at the top or the bottom.

Unless the cry 'Islam is in danger' was raised. Then all hell broke lose and the minority had to either run away or accept second class status.

Hindu and Muslim elites could be tied together by common interests of peace and prosperity

provided Terrorist nutjobs could be curbed. But it is Qatar which should fear an Islamic revolution. Indeed, so should Pakistan. Even the Taliban are afraid of being swept away by a more fanatical bunch of Islamists.

just as the Hindu and Muslim masses were held together by shared solidarities of class and occupation.

No. They were held together by good governance. That is what matters.

The Gandhian solution to the problem was largely embraced by the anti-colonial movement in India led by the Congress party. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who led the campaign for a separate state of Pakistan, had also endorsed the Gandhian solution in British India, but he was prescient to realise that its appeal would wane steadily with modernisation once the fortunes of Indian Muslims were placed at the mercy of a consolidated Hindu majority.

Nonsense! Jinnah wanted reserved seats and a weak center. But the non-Muslims of East Punjab and West Bengal, not to mention Assam, didn't want Muslim oppression. So, there was Partition.

The principal critics of the Gandhian solution – anti-caste thinkers such as Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar

who supported the Brits and who hoped to do a deal with the Muslim League- as his pal, JN Mandal did in fact do. But Mandal had to run away from Pakistan. Ambedkar couldn't get elected and had to settle for becoming the founder of a Buddhist sect.

and theorists of Hindu nationalism such as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar

who was foolish enough to get involved in Gandhi's assassination thus destroying his own political chances. But then the man wasn't really a politician.

– preferred a modern and egalitarian solution to the problem faced by the 19th-century reformers. Both Ambedkar and Savarkar sought equality in politics and society, not hierarchy.

There was a big Communist movement in India from the Twenties onward. The question was whether they could carry out a revolution on the Russian or Chinese pattern.

Yet Ambedkar reposed his faith in new constitutional liberalism derived from the French and American constitutions.

No he didn't. He dismissed his contribution to the Indian constitution as 'hack work'. This cretin is just making stuff up.

Savarkar endeavoured, by contrast, to create a new political religion, called Hindutva (Hindu-ness) to unify India along the lines of the Italian Risorgimento.

How the fuck could he do any such thing? The guy was in solitary confinement. Even after he was released, he was confined to a backwater and closely watched. Hinduism as a nationalist religious movement was a product of the Sanyasis and the Anushilan committees and the strenuous work of Lal, Bal and Pal.

In the early decades after independence, the Congress governments balanced the hierarchical accommodationist view proposed by Gandhi with modernism rooted in equal citizenship regardless of caste or faith.

Nonsense! Nehru, a Leftist, had prevailed. Gandhians were welcome to tour the boondocks preaching the virtues of abstinence and charity and the dignity of labor. Meanwhile India would rise through Soviet style 5 year plans.

This was an era in which all were equal citizens of India, even Kashmiris, even if long-standing social hierarchies remained intact.

Nehru jailed his pal Abdullah for secessionist tendencies. At that time Abdullah was seen as a Leftist.

Elite Muslims and Christians featured prominently in public life just as they had done in the colonial era.

Only if they were aligned with the ruling party.

With economic liberalisation and neoliberal globalisation since 1980, the old hierarchies have been shaken up.

Not in the Congress Party. It remains dynastic.

The myriad castes that constitute Indian society have been shattered into infinitesimal fragments,

Nope. They have consolidated themselves through mergers and political activism.

which have given rise to fractalised identities vying for equality at the expense of each other

A fractal is self-similar. A fractalised identity is the same no matter how much you zoom in or zoom out. God only knows what this illiterate fool is getting at.

The centrifugal force in pursuit of equality in public life led to dissensus, not a new national consensus.

Nonsense! Equality can only be pursued at the center and by consensus. People have to agree as to what equality means and then start broadcasting a concrete model of equality from the center to the periphery. That is what India has been doing. That's why its a big deal that a 'chai-wallah' has become Prime Minister or that a school teacher from a forested area has become President of the Republic.

In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), particularly under Modi, has revived Savarkar’s vision of Hindutva as a political religion,

Modi was inspired by Ramakrishna and Vivekananda- but then, so was Tolstoy. Being from the RSS he doesn't quote Savarkar who was from a rival organization.

albeit in a distinctly populist vein.

Modi speaks in a pragmatic vein. That is why he is popular.

One’s religious beliefs and practices matter less in Hindutva than an absolute commitment to a Hindu “rashtra” or polity.

Nonsense! Modi does not scandalize people by eating beef or drinking wine. His beliefs and practices are orthodox. But his job is running the country and so he has to speak about practical things.

The fractalised selves of post-liberalisation have been brought together

the cretin means 'fractured' selves

by the centripetal force of electoral rituals,

very true. During elections, you see Muslim Mullahs getting confused and dressing up as Christian nuns. This is because Neo-liberalism smashed their self-hood to smithereens.

digital media, and a new Hindu state,

which came into existence in 1947

all of which offer an insurgent sense of equality.

resurgent? The demand for equality could lead to insurgency- more particularly in Doha. Perhaps this cretin is actually a CIA agent of some sort. By writing stupid nonsense, he can keep his cover as a Professor of a shite subject.

Political Hinduism

Rhetorically, the Hindu rashtra is opposed to discrimination based on caste for political Hindus.

No. Ecumenical Hinduism, i.e. the essence or tattva of Hindu religion, opposes discrimination in religion on the basis of birth, gender, wealth, occupation etc. This is because the essence of a thing is true in all possible worlds including the one where no such 'accidents' obtain.

Modi’s own humble origins and his rise to power are presented as clinching evidence of a new egalitarian modernism.

No. Modi's rise is presented as evidence that if you join the RSS and work hard you can become CM or PM even if your parents were too poor to send you to College.

But, in practice, Hindutva is willing to accommodate the everyday oppressions that define Indian society.

Doha accommodates much more oppression which is why people believe that 6000 migrant workers were killed on World Cup construction projects.

In effect, some are more equal than others.

In Doha, the vast majority are just one step above being outright slaves.

Conservatism is now couched increasingly in the modern semantics of class (“rich” and “poor”) rather than in traditional caste terms.

No. Conservatism is couched, now and previously, in terms of adherence to norms that predate the current era. Some rich people are conservative. Some very poor people are extremely radical.

Those who do not identify as political Hindus – Muslims, Christians, leftists, anti-caste activists – are the new objects of discrimination and exclusion.

No they aren't. They may be the object of polemical counter-attack- but that is a different matter.

In principle, if individuals from these groups embrace Hindutva, they, too, would be considered political Hindus. The lines are, in sum, permeable, and everything is negotiable in the new Hindu polity.

Just as was the case in the old Hindu polity.

At least for now, the Hindu rashtra is a highly personalised regime, almost a cult, in which Modi is the state and countenances no opposition, not even from the judiciary or the central bank.

The Judiciary still has the final say. The Central Bank is not now nor has ever been independent.

Civil society, the media and academia are treated with suspicion because they breed dissent.

In Doha- sure. A couple of years ago some people from the Al-Murra tribe protested at being excluded from the electoral roll. Four of them have been sentenced to life in prison. I suppose, now the World Cup is done and dusted, Qatar will try to rival its big neighbor in terms of the number of people hanged every month.

Through a mix of carrot and stick, the media have been compelled to voice propaganda,

I hope Uday got some nice carrots instead of a stick shoved up his bum-hole to write this anti-Hindu propaganda

and prominent journalists, activists, and academics have been arrested or bullied into silence.

Qatar will soon be killing its own Kashoggis wherever they might be.

The electoral system is now dominated by a single political party committed to Hindutva, namely, the BJP.

Yet many States are ruled by other Parties.

Other parties, including the Congress, have been compelled now to speak the language of Hindutva and acquiesce in the new political religion.

Hate speech against Hindus is not rewarded by Hindus. Uday may get some carrots from Muslims for writing this shite but, frankly, his shite isn't worth a fart.

Oddly enough, we know little about the ritual lives and personal beliefs of Modi or his predecessors.

We know enough. Modi is a Hindu like his Mummy and Daddy. He wanted to join the Ramakrishna Mission but was turned away because, at that time, they were only taking University Graduates. After he retires, he may join some such order.

The new political religion of Hindutva seems to define itself almost entirely by negation vis-a-vis the Muslim (or Christian) Other.

No. Hindutva defines itself as the essence of Hinduism- i.e. the best version of the religion and the one which obtain where no 'accidents' of history had distorted it. In particular, Hindutva opposes any hereditary or heritable distinction amongst its adherents. That is a positive definition. It makes no mention of any other Religion.

Other Indic traditions defined traditionally in opposition to Hinduism – Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism –

this cretin previously said that Hinduism didn't exist till the nineteenth century. Buddhism was a world religion. Hinduism wasn't. Yet now he is saying that two religions which are 2500 years old were defined in opposition to that non-existent Hinduism!

are simply seen as Hindu offshoots.

The founders of those religions were born as 'samskari' Hindu Kshatriyas for whom Hindu Brahmins performed religious rituals. Christianity could be called an offshoot of Judaism because all the apostles as well as St. Paul were born Jews. Islam, however, is considered independent.

The territorial boundaries of the nation are sacralised in Hindu India.

No they are not. They are contested.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in Kashmir, where long-standing legal arrangements have been forcibly undone.

No great force was required. Kashmir Valley has seen much worse- indeed, it has done much worse.

These violent rituals of integration

There was no violence.

are meant to build communitas among political Hindus, the true citizens of the new polity.

But Indian troops stopped the invaders at the current LoC three years before Modi was born!

Settler colonialism is now expected to complete this process of national integration.

No it isn't. Don't be silly. I think Jammu will be split off and the Valley will be abandoned to its fate as a spite-slum kept afloat by remittances.

Kashmiri Muslims as colonial subjects stand metonymically for all Indian Muslims.

No they don't. Indian Muslims don't like them because they won't let them buy property and settle amongst them. By driving out their Hindu minority, the Muslims of the Valley put Indian Muslims in a precarious position. The typical response of an Indian Muslim to the film 'Kashmir files' is 'all Kashmiris are haramis. Look at your fucking Nehru dynasty! They are cuckoos in the nest. They want everything and will give nothing.'

The project of subjugating religious minorities is now regarded as a sacred duty in the service of the nation.

It was always regarded as such by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf etc, etc.

By contrast, ethnic minorities in northeast India are encouraged to negotiate the terms of their political assimilation within Hindu India.

No. They have to be appeased because otherwise, as happened in Nellie in 1983, they will start slaughtering Muslims and then, when they run out of Muslims, they will slaughter Hindu Bengalis before, after the Bengalis have run away, slaughtering each other.

In response to activists’ claims about indigenity in these regions bordering China and Myanmar, the BJP now claims that all Indigenous peoples of India are Hindu, and all Hindus are, by definition, indigenous to India.

This was the claim made by Congress in the Nineteen Thirties and received explicit statutory force in the 1955 Marriage Act. The Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld this doctrine.  This does not mean that a Smarta can't accept Sarna religion and worship according to its tenets or vice versa. Hinduism has that type of ecumenical spirit built into its DNA.

Hindutva is, undoubtedly, an abstract political religion, stripped of contextual or historical depth.

No. It is ecumenical Hinduism free of historical distortions and based on pure Monist Spirituality.

This is precisely what the colonial-era reformers and Savarkar had dreamed of: an all-India Hinduism that reins in the problem of caste via the dazzling dream of equal citizenship.

The vast majority of residents of Qatar know that getting equal citizenship there is a 'dazzling dream'. Indeed, even members of the Al Murrah tribe- the majority indigenous tribe of Qatar- can't dream of equal citizenship. They had supported the Sheikh who was overthrown by his son in 1995 and since then their position has deteriorated.

Not only is a Hindu rashtra now a reality, but the Muslim Other has been subjugated within it.

This guy will have his head kicked in if he tries saying this outside any Indian mosque.

The inauguration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, much like the colonisation of Kashmir, has accomplished both tasks in the highly symbolic and theatrical world of Hindutva.

But it was the Supreme Court which awarded the disputed land to the Hindu deity and which ruled that J&K had no shred of sovereignty. Meanwhile, Modi and Yogi and so forth have to concentrate on improving governance if they want to get reelected. The highly symbolic and theatrical world of Doha may be different from India in that respect but Al Jazeera will always be able to find some Hindu cretin to defame his own people in return for a little money.

If India is today a Hindu nation,

it is because Nehru and Gandhi and Ambedkar and so forth made it so in 1947

it is also a tinderbox in which the self is defined by the perpetual hatred of others.

No. If Muslims are a minority and they attack the majority and kill policemen, it is likely they will suffer disproportionate casualties. But that was the case even before Partition.

Whenever India’s youth tire of this majoritarian politics of hate,

they have tired of the stupid lies spouted by anti-national academics who teach worthless shite

they will reflect on the paths not taken to make their country a prosperous, equitable, and decent.

For this to happen, Hinduism must disappear because it was only invented by Colonialists in the Nineteenth Century. Once Hindus admit they don't actually have any religion they will convert to Islam and demand the rule of the Caliphate which... oh dear! Caliphate will kill off all the Kings and Emirs of the peninsula! They will shut down 'Georgetown, Qatar' in the blink of an eye. Will they force Uday to wear burqa or just use him as a donkey? The only equitable and decent course would be to put burqa on him and then use him as a donkey. This is the path to prosperity.
