Why the Carter Center is China's useful idiot

According to the Washington Free Beacon, Rep. Jody Hice (R., Ga.) and three other Georgia Republicans criticized the Carter Center for cohosting events with entities backed by the United Front, the Chinese Communist Party's foreign influence arm, in a Wednesday Letter. The China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF), a nonprofit group backed by the United Front, has channeled millions of dollars to famed U.S. think tanks such as the Brookings Institution, Center for American Progress, and the Atlantic Council. The Carter Center received more than $100,000 from the foundation in 2019 alone, according to its most recent annual report.

What did the Carter Center do to earn such sums?
On its website, it states
Owing to President Carter's decision in 1978 to normalize relations and the Center's name recognition in China, President Xi Jinping of China asked President Carter in 2012 to allocate more resources of The Carter Center to advance U.S.-China relations
What happened in April 2012? The answer is the Chinese Govt. shut down the Carter Center's 'China Elections and Governance' website. Xi was saying, don't try to interfere in my country. Don't be utter idiots. Be useful idiots by doing propaganda for me in your own country.

There is a hilarious story behind this. Yawei Liu was a Chinese student who decided returning to China after Tiananmen Square might not be a really clever idea. His supervisor got him a job with the Carter Center monitoring elections in China
Naively, the Carter Center reveals '
Bob Pastor, one of Liu’s former Emory professors and a director at The Carter Center, called him soon after with a request for help. “He said, ‘The Carter Center just started working on elections in China.’ I said, ‘What elections? I’ve never heard of elections in China.’” Pastor explained that these were village-level elections administered under the Ministry of Civil Affairs. Liu spent his spare time over the next two years volunteering his expertise for the elections project. By 1998, he took a part-time post as head of the Carter Center’s China village elections project and continued to teach history full-time. Ten years later, he left teaching altogether to expand the Carter Center program. One of Liu’s proudest achievements at The Carter Center is the China elections website (www.chinaelections.org), which turns 10 this year. Started as a side project, today the site serves as a hub for discussion about political reform in China. “Our values are clear,” Liu said. “We are pro-democracy, pro-openness, pro-transparency, but we allow the other side to be heard. We’re balanced and objective. Our job is to referee the debate.”
Xi shut that 'refereeing' down. Now the Carter Center has to do Chinese State propaganda so as to keep its toe hold in China.
Liu states this clearly in an interview-  I think we were told, directly and indirectly, “You guys are no longer welcome to work on promoting grassroots democracy in China. And if there’s anything you would like to do, we would like that to focus on promoting better understanding between the U.S. and China.” So that’s why we made the switch in 2012.

The presence of both Presidents Bush at the 2008 Olympics was the highwater mark of American-Chinese relations. Liu's own importance lay in writing a book about Obama for the Chinese. But Obama could not deliver much for China or anybody else so, by 2012, China took a different road as did Russia and so forth. The fundamental premise of the Carter Center had been shown to be false. America could not encourage democracy elsewhere. It's own democracy was unsafe because its foreign policy, in Obama's words, was to do stupid shit.

Soon enough, Chairman Xi cracked down on Christianity in China. The Carter Center turned the other cheek- which was the Christian thing to do. Sadly, it also felt it necessary to drop its trousers and part its ass cheeks. That was less than dignified. Vicky Hartzler has brought in the Combating the Persecution of Christians in China Act. Since she is a Republican, there should be some sweet sweet Chinese moolah to fight the good fight against the ungodly Reds- Red States that is.

I'm not suggesting that the Chinese are stupid enough to believe that the Carter Center has any influence in America. But they have come up with a new strategy to keep themselves useful to Chairman Xi. It involves doing China's dirty work with respect to third countries- like India. However, the Carter Center hasn't been able to lay their hands on any Indian to help them. I don't suppose they could now get hold of a Chinese student of the caliber of Liu for their China work. But their India work is set up to fail in advance because they have got some ABCD Pankaj Misra wannabe who is too illiterate even to publish in the Wire. They also have the editor of the Caravan. But that fool is against Vijayan- Kerala's 'Modi in a mundu'. It seems the Chairman Deng of Kerala may be able to broker a deal with the Unions such that Kerala experiences rapid job growth. Suddenly, banging on about democracy and human rights and press freedom looks utterly pointless. Still, the brain dead Carter Center must continue to serve its new master. What will this involve? The answer is shitting on India. But since that shitting is done from very far away, it is only their own nest they are fouling. India will disengage from Quad by itself. It may seek to partner with France and Israel to reduce reliance on Russia. However, the new reality is Russian sponsored nuclear proliferation of the sort China began in 1982- the year the Carter Center was set up.

Why the fuck would any American want to promote China in other Nations? The Chinese would prefer you to stay at home and fuck up your own country.  I think the answer is that Chinese Ambassadors to the US like lecturing the Carter Center and the Bush Foundation about Democracy. They want the Americans to circulate these farcical lectures to their clients around the world.

Promoting U.S.-China Collaboration in Other Nations

The Carter Center is initiating pilot programs to highlight the benefits of coordinated and collective action between the United States and China in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This includes developing a platform to monitor and report on regional crises that could result in internal chaos and damage the crucial U.S.-China relationship.

In other words, describe anyone in South Asia who objects to Chinese aggression as a fucking Fascist who is violating Human Rights and damaging Democracy- right?

The Center encourages multilateral dialogue to help resolve local conflicts, provide advice and assistance to local economic development and political reform efforts, and produce confidence-building measures for the U.S.-China relationship.

Does Biden really believe China will decide not to sell arms to Russia? Is the Carter Center going to turn out to have bought Chinese goodwill for America? Fuck no. It represents a bunch of useful idiots who have already been pumped and dumped but don't get the dumping part and are eager for more pumping.
