Sadhvi Pragya spent 8 years in prison because it was claimed that she owned a 'golden motorcycle'- Hindu nuns being notoriously partial to such vehicles- which she handed over to some Hindu terrorists, such creatures being ubiquitous all over the world, who then used it to stage a bomb blast. This was at a time when Congress was in power and Rahul Gandhi was claiming that Hindu terrorism was a much bigger threat to India than that of the Muslim variety.
It turned out that, whereas Hindu terrorism did not exist, pretending it did and then imprisoning innocent people on that basis, was a threat to the very existence of the Congress party.
Modi, somewhat reluctantly- there being no other takers for the job- gave Sadhvi Pragya the opportunity to run for Parliament against Digvijay Singh- a prominent advocate of the Hindu terror theory.
Singh was crushingly defeated. The Sadhvi was vindicated.
Why?
It is because Indians don't believe there was ever any Hindu terrorism. The thing was invented by the Congress party. Furthermore, they showed they don't trust the Police or the CBI both of whom they believe to be in the pockets of the politicians.
Why do Indians hold this belief? The answer is because they themselves are overwhelmingly Hindu and have never seen hide or hair of this so called Saffron terror. By contrast, Islamic terror was and remains all too visible. The Pulwana atrocity is fresh in voters' minds.
Digvijay Singh was not the only casualty of the failure of the 'Hindu terror' theory. Rahul Gandhi lost his own seat in Amethi. Henceforth, he will represent people whose language he does not know. This is a good thing. Not being able to understand what Rahul Baba says makes one less inclined to think him a cretin.
If the Sadhvi was the bogeyman for the Liberal Media, Dr. Kanhaiya Kumar was their blue eyed boy. Shashi Tharoor called him a 'nationwide political star'. But this shooting star has crashed and burned on his home turf. Indeed, the Left has never had it so bad. In Kerala they have lost seats to Congress because of their stupidity over the Sabarimala issue. Tharoor, initially, was on their side. Then the local Congress party saw sense and went the other way. Thus, Dr. Tharoor ended up opposing the entry of women into the Sabarimala temple. This was not the policy of the Congress party at the National level. However, it did enable Rahul Gandhi to retain a seat in Parliament because, fearing he'd lose in Amethi, he also ran from a constituency in Kerala. Since Rahul's party was against females entering the Sabarimala only in Kerala, but not in U.P. he won from the South but lost in the North. Meanwhile Modi & Shah's backing of Sadhvi Pragya looks inspired. It reminded people that innocent people had suffered in jail because of Congress's stupid lies. Modi, by contrast, had punished genuine terrorists- risking nuclear war with Pakistan, to do so.
